What is a First Moon Circle?
First Moon Circles are a modern take on an ancient rite of passage.
Your daughter will love this beautiful event designed to lovingly educate and empower girls to feel confident in their bodies and about growing up.
Through warm and honest menstrual and self-care education, craft, connection with other girls, storytelling, and a special child–parent ceremony, we honour the first period as a significant transition, not something to hide from or fear.
These circles replace shame with celebration, and awkwardness with confidence!
What happens on the day?
Girls' Circle
We begin with a two-hour experience just for the girls—a chance to meet, have fun, and form new friendships in a supportive space. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening to their bodies, emotions, and inner world as they approach menarche (their first period, also known as the First Moon).
We'll cover self-care, hygiene, and how to handle surprise blood with confidence—because periods don’t always arrive at the perfect time! The girls will also have the chance to explore natural and organic period products in a playful, pressure-free way, helping them feel at ease when the time comes.
There will also be a Q&A, where they can ask any awkward, curious, or important questions in a safe and open environment. Before we welcome the mums, we'll take a short movement break to refresh and reset.
Mother-Daughter Gathering
Mothers or caregivers are invited to join us for a gentle afternoon tea to celebrate this beautiful rite of passage. Together, we’ll learn about cycle self-care, so you can continue these conversations and practices at home.
There will also be a special moment for mothers to share wisdom, blessings, or words of encouragement with their daughters. We’ll finish by creating a bracelet to represent the monthly cycle, offering the girls a simple, tangible way to connect with their rhythm.

Why is this so important?
1 / Positive Period Education Boosts Confidence & Body Image
Research shows that girls who receive empowering period education are less likely to experience body shame or disordered eating. A 2020 study in The Journal of Adolescent Health found that when menstruation is framed as natural and powerful, girls develop higher self-esteem and a healthier body image—reducing the risk of body dissatisfaction during puberty.
2 / Rites of Passage Shape Self-Worth & Resilience
Marking life transitions with meaningful rituals strengthens a girl’s sense of self-worth. Studies in developmental psychology show that when milestones are acknowledged in supportive environments, children develop greater confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being—skills that carry into adulthood.
3 / First Moon Circles Encourage Self-Advocacy & Healthy Boundaries
Girls who are taught to honour their cycles are more likely to advocate for their needs. Research on menstrual education suggests that those who understand their bodies are better equipped to communicate boundaries, make empowered choices, and develop healthier relationships throughout life.
4 / Community Support Lowers Anxiety & Shame
Open conversations about periods reduce fear and stigma. Studies show that when girls discuss menstruation in a safe, positive space, they experience less anxiety and embarrassment—leading to a healthier relationship with their bodies and cycles
